Stockholm Observations

Stockholm’s a relatively obscure travel destination, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I arrived! Here were some of my observations from my last trip:

1. Swedes aren’t as blond as we’ve been led to believe. Unless the women actually dyed their hair brown as a trick.

2. Swedish folk are PASSIONATE about interior design. It seemed like a full 1/4 of all stores in Stockholm were furniture stores! (And an IKEA was nowhere to be found.)

3. I love the Swedish expressions for “hello” and “thank you.” The common Swedish greeting is “hej” (pronounced “hey”), which can be responded to by saying “hej hej!” Thank you is “tack” – the response being “tack tack!”

5. ABBA (yes, the band) has a pretty avid fan base in Stockholm! In fact, they take great pride in the famous Swedes throughout the world – the airport had hallways full of them (I actually had no idea there were so many!) Bjorn Borg, Roxette, Annika Sorenstam, and many others were all from here.

All in all, it was a wonderful place to visit. The city is spectactular, the people are extremely friendly and helpful, the environment is safe – what more could you want? I think I may be back with the family if we ever do an Etter Tour of Europe with the kids…
